Contras

My teammates made all the difference.

Promoted from within and able to move to a department I really enjoyed. We built a good team and we were able to depend on each other when we could depend on no one else. A lot of work was expected which made the work/life balance difficult.

Not a good place to work

They want to do more with less and expect the impossible from the frontline employees. Long hours plus on call after hours. 10-12 hours per day 6 days per week.

Pros

Flexibility in start time

Contras

Poor work life balance. High expectations.

Depends on the location

I worked at three different locations, my experience was different at each one. MD was the best had a great Service Manager, KY was mostly good (a lot of on call and low budget so obsolete equipment). WA was the worst never received relocation bonus it was a bait and switch, constantly worked 14 hour days.I loved the job and the customers were mostly easy to work with once it was clear that I could not help the price of propane. I would recommend this job for someone who wants to learn more technical skills and prefers working alone as well as having off MOST nights and weekends. *Don’t consider this company if you do not have a safety mindset, or don’t like being on call*Pros: over time pay, good culture, no over the shoulder management after you prove your workCons: management is different depending on where you go, propane smell stays on you, not a lot of areas for advancement so your rate of pay pretty much stays at the same rate that you negotiate upon hire.

Productive and worklife balance in the summer months

Overall not a bad place to work. You will put in the hours as they upper managment does not reconize what is needed in the field.

Nice place to work.

I was a Data Processor at Amerigas. At first we were in the office, then at home after Covid hit. The company was quick to response to Covid and supplied us with all the equipment needed to work from home. After changing to wfh, supervisors changed. The new supervisors had absolutely no training and did not know how to talk to you professionally. There was mandatory OT for some of the ‘queues’. You could learn different queues (or sometimes be made to learn them). Training was horrible after we started wfh. The work could sometimes be monotonous, but that’s normal for a data processing job. All-in-all I really liked my job, loved working from home. The pay was okay, didn’t seem like they took your experience into consideration though. Annual raises were decent. The people I worked with were great, didn’t mind answering questions.

Pros

Work from home. PTO.

Contras

Supervisors were unprofessional.

Great coworkers, no job security

The biggest problem with this company is the business model they elected to follow in 2020. Local, boot on the ground employees have no security or voice. Everything is done through call centers and no local ability to really help the customers or other employees.

Micro managing

Nobody has any freedom. You have cameras in the truck with software that monitors what the driver does. You can't even drink water, or stare in your mirror for more than 3 seconds without setting the camera off. You have to run the route how it's dispatched, so if someone messes up and puts a stop way out of the way, you have to run it in that order or you'll get yelled at. Alternately, managers are told to be hands off, so the drivers can be "self managing." You're responsible for scheduling the maintenance on the truck. The good side of it, is you can pretty much do your own thing and not have to worry about anything. You have a key to most of your accounts, and most of them are "no contact" so you don't have to talk to manager, get checked in, or ask for a key; just roll up, swap out, and leave.

Stressful and never know who will be laid off next

They talk good but never come thru. Treat customers terribly as well as employees. You never know who the next one is to be laid off. Best bet is to steer clear of this place.

Nice equipment but can be very stressful job in the winter time!

Great equipment/trucks and co-workers but super stressful job in the winter time trying to get trucks up icy, narrow, hilly driveways. Usually the guy with the propane is the last house on the dirt road off in the boonies and you have to get the truck there regardless of how trecherous the road and driveway may be so his heat doesn't run out and freeze his house! Can be a VERY stressful job if performed in a snowy/mountainous environment. Rest of the year is great and chill.

Unorganized and continuous changes and layoffs

This was actually a really good company to work for up until they moved all their customer service to call centers. At that point working for Amerigas became stressful and confusing with continuous changes to how we do things. There’s poor communication lots of angry customers and lots of layoffs. Job security is not there. if you’re out of time off pay you cannot get it and any missed time results in points assessed against you points assessed against regardless of the reason for the time off unless you have FMLA, jury duty or funeral leave

Pros

Great insurance and competitive pay

Contras

Have to use break time to use the bathroom/ no PTO no time off and many other reasons

No Life / Work balance whatsoever cannot plan for personal or family activities never know when you will be off

No time off 6 months in winter 6 day weeks 75 hours 65 hours summer turn over 1 driver every 60 days manager, supervisor & lead driver quit April 2022

Without input or care let go of hundreds of people. Manager referred to customers who didn't purchase large quantities of gas as insignificant.

At first it seemed like an alright place to work. But as time went on you realized that your input didn't matter. The customers were nobodies that the company had little regard for.

Pros

None that I can think of.

Contras

Little regard for customers and employees

Laid off without warning..

Communication between departments non existent. here today...gone tomorrow. Many people would unceremoniously let go without warning..many had been there for years..sad situation.

Consistent Change

If you are looking for a fast paced environment, with constant change this is the place to be. Amerigas has undergone several restructures. Job security is not a thing in the propane industry.

Weekends off

Amerigas has absolutely no morals. No structure. You are treated as a number not a person. You are to perform as a robot ! Management is a complete joke , training is a complete joke. Their number one priority is not you or the customers. It's making money !! Nickle and dime every customer !!

Pros

Clock out time !! Weekends off.

Contras

Totally unsafe place to work

Hard work

Working at Amerigas is tough work. Staff is often short with a lot of turnover. I don’t feel the pay is worth the physical expectations. Management often has little experience with the propane business, but a business degree will work even without the knowledge of the industry.

Pros

Make your own hours

Contras

Physically demanding, poor management communication

Company has no direction. Only cares about the numbers.

This place is on its way out.Stay away there’s plenty of better jobs out there. You will go home mad an overworked. Routing for deliveries is all over the place and they have no problem adding stops to you without notice and still expect all deliveries to be completed. The call center and Ecc have no clue what they are doing.

Greedy business practices / employees are just a number

This company does not care about its customers or staff. Every move they make is to pad their pockets. Long time customers are not valued. The more they can charge a customer per gallon is how they classify their “top customers”. Staff is always kept in the dark and treated like minions. New hires are not given thorough training. They promise advancement opportunities, but there are none. Promises made during interviews for annual and merit raises, commission opportunities and bonuses are not legit. Managers allowed to keep bonus monies or disperse to employees, majority are greedy and never pass along the district earned bonus. Customer complaints are difficult to deal with as they are valid due to company’s poor business practices. Many people in upper management & at their corporate office are incompetent and never follow through to resolve issues.

Pros

Benefits, it’s a job

Contras

Dealing with Stressed customers, lies from upper management, poor business practices

Low key environment but low pay

I have worked for the company for some time and have noticed big changes when downsizing the company. They have forgotten about the people that matter. The ones that work the tireless hours with low pay. They seem to be lost in the shuffle and only care about the higher execs not the legs they stand on. Sad to see the company changing, used to be a great place to work.
