Bad Long Term Prospects, Good as a Stepping Stone

Been working for Hub Group for almost 5 years:Must negotiate well at time of offer; offered salary is competitive but quickly falls behind the market due to small raises. raises are nearly impossible to get outside of the merit raises which might be a single-digit percentage per year and often isn't even enough to cover cost of living increases. Company is public and cares more about their stock price than employee satisfaction, very rarely hires support positions in order to keep headcount low to make numbers look better. Benefits are pretty solid across the board. However, being that your salary will fall behind the market and the only way to get a meaningful raise is through a promotion means this probably is a 3-years then move on type of company.

Bereacracy

Corporate calls the shots. Trucks always breaking down. Home delivery dispatch is top of the line. When the regular dispatch is gone, it turns into a clown show. Store personnel will pressure you to take materials that are ment for box truck delivery, Carry to much materials. Pays is actually good. But could be better. Stressful dealing with untrained store personnel. Customers always want for you to do the most for them even though the delivery is only curbside with forklift.

Not a great place

No life! Not great pay. Not great insurance for family. They lied about hours. Money missing from check every week. No incentives. If you just want to drive a truck and don't care about all that, this may be the job for you!

Too Much on Everyone's Plate

The supply chain analysts within Hub Group work hard with all their accounts but they have way too much to do on a daily basis. Customers expect your attention every hour of each shift and will berate and verbally abuse you if you don't answer their questions as soon as possible. The management of the SCAs are understanding of the workload and don't bother you about anything because they know how Hub Group's customers act.If Hub Group limited the amount of customers they brought in or completely let go of customers that handle their own freight, then business would run much more smoothly. Consolidation is their specialty, so the customers that only use us to handle their inventory creates more work for no reason.

Pros

All employees on the same page, no drama, willing to adapt

Contras

Pay could be better, work distributed by accounts can lead to to unequal amounts of work per employee

Poor communication about residential delivery exemption

If your thinking about residential delivery driver, if you get a ticket for going through a no truck zone you will be told you should have known better being a professional driver, regardless that you were trained that so long as you have a delivery to make and show this to officer if stopped in no truck zone that you have a delivery you will be ok. You will have to make contact with CHP if you have doubt about going into a no truck zone, I did not mind doing this and CHP communicated more to me about deliveries in and through no truck zones than my trainers. Pass if offered job doing residential deliveries “it can be very confusing,” er a CHP officer.

Pros

Benefits good

Contras

Risk getting ticket

Management will lie directly to you

Worst work environment I have ever been in. Zero support from management. Was directly lied to by management for over 90 days. Was then told to find somewhere else to work if that was a problem.

Good

Been eight years. I never get any requisitions. Over all it is good campny to work. Except if you get off. Most of time they give the truck to next driver. With out notification.

My own boss. Pick my own schedule, routes.

Good company to work for. Pay is descent competitive. Pick your own schedule mornings noon or night shifts. They let you pick routes u like. Be home every day/ or night. You always reset hours being at home not on the road.

Not what they advertised

Yes I was expecting a few lies from the recruiters but wow!!! So many BIG lies on top of each other! Very low pay! Edinburg is the least payed from all the terminals they have, and the sad part is that we do more! Don't go home everyday, and you have to have a perfect day in order to make it back home on time. Very disappointed with this company.

Easiest Job Ever

Best paying local position ever. Weekly pay great staff. New automatic Day Cabs Freightliner and International. Paid time and half after 40. You will run less than 100 miles a shift most days.

Pros

Great Pay over time after 40 hours to consecutive days off.

Contras

Long shift 12 hours 5 days 60 hours a week

The most fun I've ever had, working

This is my retirement job. All the focus is on being safe. You'll never hear anyone tell you to hurry. The pay is fair. Good benefits. 401k. Medical. Vacation...The hours can be long. It is 6 days/week.The "Office" and all the bosses are 100 miles away. The equipment is pretty well maintained. Some of that is up to you. If you are naturally unhappy, this job won't change that. As a truck driving Job, it the best I've found

Productivity, flexibility on schedule and routes

Good company. Set my own schedule & routes. Pay is good. Fun most of the time. Sometimes Stressful . Great fuel discounts up-to 62 cents / gallon.

Pros

Contras

Nothing

Uncaring environment

This used to be a decent place to work. Now it's just all about the numbers. Driver managers stress you out before you can begin your day. Terminal managers here today gone tomorrow. (Hopefully not the newest one he is really nice , too good for Hub) You are worked to the point of exhaustion. Your needs are unimportant. Lots of favoritism and the rules change daily to fit their needs.

Flexibility

The rail is not for everybody. If your willing to work hard and follow the rules ( pre trip/mid trip/post trip/ compliant on the road/road worthy equipment, and if no touch freight excites you, along with good pay. This might just be the job for you, and you can go home every night.

Management is full of dictators, not leaders

Was a great company, but the culture changed about a year ago. Now management is full of people who only know how to read metrics and yell at the people below them. They offer no solutions, help or guidance.... they just tell you to do it. Turnover is insane and attrition is through the roof. It is a shame what management has done to this company, but they never man up and take responsibility... they just blame someone else.

Not a good place to work at, they’ve lied since the beginning of me working there.

You’re just a number in this company Paycheck short most of the time They pay air miles like if you have a plane Eyes sensor cam, can’t scratch your noses they call saying to keep both hand on steering and face forward.

You are just number.

The corporate office puts so much pressure on terminal manager and driver managers. It is hard to feel like you are heard or compensated if there are pay roll mistakes or dispatch mistakes. No one wants to be accountable they all pass the buck. I worked there 3 years and had 5 terminal managers and all 10 driver managers were replaced. High driver turnover.

Pros

The pay has increased to try to keep drivers, But company issues are the same, So if you can deal with just being a number, You will do fine.

Contras

14 hour days, 5 days a week, They blame drivers for everything, Being a good driver doesn't get you any considerations.

Not bad not great

The pay is lowManagement doesn’t care unless you have been tenured Get ur experience and get outThe pay is low but the experience is fine beware of the non competitive agreement they ask you to sign it limits you for 1 year
