Exciting work

Evaluación destacada de Indeed

La evaluación más útil según Indeed
Exciting work that is challenging. Lots of opportunity to grow. Can be slow at times, typical for a government job. Good developmental program for entry level hires.

Excessive nepotism

Be warned that whatever you do here, they will always find a way to arbitrarily justify STRL ratings. You could have the most above-and-beyond work and depending on your rater's mood you will get a 1 or 2. Good luck here.

Productive workplace

Productive workplace.Plenty of opportunities that cover multiple diciplines.Plenty of opportunities to rotate to something new. Few opportunities for upward mobility past GS-13 equivalent.

Good coworkers and fairly laidback atmosphere

Can be stressful at times but usually pretty laid back. Lower management is usually pretty good and cares about the workers. Work can be interesting and there's opportunity for rotations to other teams which is nice

Productive laid back place to work.

Work day starts at 6:30 and ends at 3:15 M-F. Weekends off and all federal holidays are paid time off. Learned about shipping, receiving, forklift operations, inventory of thousands of tools, working with different program managers, and building crates and shipping materials. Management is completely hands off here they are not even on site. Workplace culture is typical people have there clicks but everyone gets along. The hardest part about this job is that the warehouses are not climate controlled. I enjoy the hours and the fact that overtime is not authorized.

Job Security is GREAT but redudant work and Low Wages

NAVAIR is a purchaser of products/capabilities so engineering/IRAD is delegated to DoD contractors. Most duties include supporting an existing System/Platform by being the middle man between contractors and the fleet/program office. A sprinkle of engineering but most work is mundane paper pushing. I would classify this job as a retirement job and most of your engineering skills will not be used. Job security and work/life balance are the BIG pros.

Ok place

It's an oK place. The boss was ok. the work was ok. the employees were ok. the pay was ok. the location was in the middle of nowhere. so that was a big negative for me.

Innovation

Great company to work for. Work as a team. The boss is easy to work for. You will gain a lot of experience in government contracts and FAA policies and compliance.

Great place to work if you are content with your career here

I started out as entry level engineer and advanced my way up to Journeyman level, which is equivalent to senior position in the industry. The work/life balance is exceptionally good here. A lots of PTO and sick leaves. Tuition Assistance is available. The only down side is for the equivalent work you do here, you earn way less income compare to other companies. There are a lot of incompetence people work at NAVAIR. They relied on contractors to do the good work. The good workers eventually leave the job to to earn more income somewhere else.

Pros

Benefits, work/life balances.

Contras

Low pay. Some people are lazy
¿Te ha sido de ayuda esta evaluación?

Great work life balance

Working in the government, you have great work life balance and receive a good salary. This is also a very relaxed work environment with great training programs.

Stable and secure job environment

Good place to start your career and have multiple opportunities at different projects. The downsides are the locations and that sometimes it doesnt feel very inclusive.
¿Te ha sido de ayuda esta evaluación?

No promotional opportunities

They dont care for your career progression. Often times projects get cancelled due to leadership inefficiency. Horrible managers and supervisors. Only good thing is the govt PTO/sick days.

Efficiency

Navair focuses on supporting the fleet without forgetting about their employees individual lives. Learned a lot, achieved a lot, demonstrated a lot. Everybody helps everyone. Good working environment.

Great place to support a family, have some balance. The work can be boring, and meaningless most of the time.

Absolutely huge workplace and where they put you will be dependent on space. The pay is great as are the benefits but the work can be very non rewarding.

Pros

Lots of time off, flexible work schedule

Contras

Grinding every day to try and find some pride and interest in what you are doing

Lots to learn early on but stagnates quickly. Great work/life balance but subpar pay (at least for engineers)

Lots of opportunity for young engineers looking to learn new things and get exposure to the aerospace industry. Be careful though, it is very easy to get pigeon holed into a specific and small role. Pay does need meet industry standards (at least for engineers), but the work/life balance is great and the job is not stressful. After a few years, personal/professional growth stagnates and the cracks in the system start to show.

Pros

Great work/life balance, great job security, working on military aircraft is pretty cool.

Contras

Low pay for highly technical jobs, trying to get things done can be a bureaucratic nightmare.
¿Te ha sido de ayuda esta evaluación?

Good people for the most part. A LOT of red tape, to the point of frustration. Low pay raises. Money is always tight.

It's not a bad place to work, but also not the best. A lot of people tend to leave to the industry after working here for few years. Pay is low, benefits are good. Career advancement is somewhat limited.

Pros

Amount of leave, job security

Contras

lots of red tape, TOO much training requirements, low pay, location
¿Te ha sido de ayuda esta evaluación?

Great environment, valuable work, can be boring

The leadership seems to support everyone and encourages development. The STRL scale allows for a good amount of growth and nice compensation though high grade positions can be limited (especially on the technical side). The work is important and the mission is viewed in a positive light but many people find the work to be too contract and management-y for many engineers liking. Pay and promotion for entry level engineers is competitiveNAVAIR is headquartered in Southern Maryland which is more rural than many people like.

Pros

healthy work life balance, pay, management support, sense of purpose

Contras

Not a ton of very technical opportunities, government = bureaucracy, work can be dull
¿Te ha sido de ayuda esta evaluación?

Good place to work

Lots of support to try new things, pay isn't bad and the work place is easy going. The projects are cool, downside is that their is a lot of forms to fill out and constant "training" in the form of meetings and powerpoints.

Pros

Cool projects, lots of opportunity to try new things or move around

Contras

Lots of req. training

Great experience

Great people and overall positive work experience, Only an internship so cannot speak for fulltime. Mentors were very friendly and willing to help at all times.

Decent

Great place to start at as a straight out of college employee. Depending on the branch you're in will decide your work life. Some are chill and fun others are just head down on work. Depending on what you do, you can telework or will be working in a cubicle. Benefits are good. They have different work schedules too, not just 8 hour work week but also CWS (compressed work schedule) where you work 9 hours M-Th and get every other Friday off (and work Friday is 8 hours) or work 10 hours M-Th and get all Fridays off.

Pros

Great benefits, job security

Contras

No sense of belonging
¿Te ha sido de ayuda esta evaluación?

Okay place to work

Place is okay to work. Environment is okay. Work life balance is great. Salary is low compared to the surrounding area. My team has great personalities, but it was hard to find skilled workers.
